Exploring our heritage
Building our future
Lugha yetu,
uhuru wetu
Our main goal at Mwananchi Afrika is to digitise, spread & educate more on our local languages.
The ‘Gítaúra gía Gíkúyú’ project is our effort to further document the Kikuyu language spoken in Kenya by over 8 million people.
It utilises Kikuyu, Swahili and English in order to open the language to more people than ever before.
It is the first part of the ‘Múríma project’ which intends to create such trilingual dictionaries for Kikuyu, Embu and Meru, while supporting similar initiatives for other Kenyan laguages.
